Customize your correction using WASCA wave front analyzer with CRS master:

This instrument gives personal correction by integrating the wavefront diagnosis obtained with the WASCA Analyzer into therapy with the MEL-80. However, it can do much more besides. If treatment planning is to be truly customized, it must take into account not only wavefront data, but all the relevant parameters of each individual patient.

On the basis of the highly accurate wavefront data from the WASCA Analyzer, the CRS-Master II allows the treatment planning required for the correction. Your correction profile including the higher order aberrations is analyzed in 0.4 seconds!

Customized aberration correction demands the utmost precision from the excimer laser. To guarantee the degree of accuracy required, the CRS-Master II adapts the laser energy to each patient’s corneal curvature. Together with the aberration Smart Lens Design of the MEL-80, the extremely accurate ablation creates an optimum basis for the correction of even the smallest irregular refractive errors.

In the development of the CRS-Master II, prime importance was attached not only to the optimization of therapy, but also to safety. During all phases of treatment planning, the residual corneal thickness is monitored.

In the treatment planning process, all relevant parameters are displayed on a clearly structured interface. To permit fast, convenient treatment planning in everyday clinical use, the CRS-Master II offers practical, meaningful presets.

Not all wavefront analyzers used for different lasers are the same although they use the same Shack-Hartman wavefront analysis method, which is the gold standard for true wavefront analysis. The number of points analyzed varies for different lasers. The more points analyzed the more precise is the creation of the correction profile. Zyoptix treatment by Bausch & Lomb uses the Zywave Aberrometer machine which analyze 78 points on the entire cornea as compared to WASCA wavefront analyzer analyzing 800 points in a 7MM pupillary area of the cornea.



Creating the corneal flap using Intralase

How IntraLase works:

Unlike mechanical instruments, IntraLase technology is uniquely able to program the dimensions of your flap based on what’s best for your eye. Then the IntraLase laser creates your flap from below the surface of the cornea-without ever cutting it.


  1. IntraLase uses ultrafast pulses of laser light to position microscopic bubbles at a precise depth determined by your doctor.
  2. The laser light passes harmlessly through your cornea. Then the laser creating rows of these bubbles just beneath your corneal surface as it moves back and forth across your eye in a uniform plane.
  3. Next, the IntraLase laser stacks bubbles around your corneal diameter to create the edges of your flap. These bubbles are stacked at an angle that is determined by your doctor and is individualized to the way your eye is shaped.
  4. The process takes only about 30 seconds from start to finish-it quiet and it’s comfortable.
  5. Your doctor then gently lifts the flap to allow for the second step of your LASIK treatment. When treatment is complete, the flap easily “locks” back into position and rapidly begins to heal.

Custom wavefront correction using Zeiss MEL80ExcimerLaser:

Now that you’ve had your personal vision profile using WASCA CRS master and your corneal flap using the XP Microkeratome, your procedure is done using the Zeiss MEL 80 Excimer Laser. The flap created by the microkeratome is lifted to expose the corneal tissue. The laser is delivered to precisely correct your personalized correction. The Zeiss Mel 80 laser has the fastest laser delivery in Manitoba. It also has a very fast Eyetracker to compensate for any eye movement during the procedure. Because the Zeiss Mel 80 laser is very fast the actual laser correction is done in a matter of seconds. Even the high corrections are done under a maximum of only 45 seconds. After the correction is done the corneal flap is placed and perfectly positioned to its original position. Antibiotic and steroid drops instilled and the speculum is removed.

The left eye is focused under the microscope. The right eye is covered. The process of creating the flap and the laser correction is the same as for the right eye.

The whole process for the procedure for both eyes is very fast. You are in the laser room for about 10 to 15 minutes. After the procedure you are escorted to the recovery room where you will relax till you are ready to go home when you feel good enough to do so. The post operative period some discomfort may be there. This will improve in a couple of hours.

You will be seen the next day for your checkup. Most of our patients vision is excellent in the first postoperative day-almost good enough to drive to the clinic.
