Almost all lasers have one type or another form of “Custom” or “Wavefront” LASIK.
Here the correction is customised to correct visual imperfections beyond the traditional way used to order your eyeglasses or contact lenses. In fact there is no technology in the eyeglass or contact lens industry to make corrective lenses to such a detailed precision. Of course there is “custom” correction and custom correction. The more detailed analysis the more precise is your correction. The custom wave-front analysis or the Mel 80 Excimer laser analyses nearly 800 points in a 7.0 mm pupillary area of cornea as compared to 78 points of the whole cornea of Zyoptix of Bausch & Lomb or 125 points in 6mm pupil area of cornea in CustomVue analysis for Visx.
To match the precision of our custom correction we use IntraLase Femtosecond Laser to create a flap or the very precise XP Microkeratome to make the flap.
If You are 40+ and wear Bifocals or progressives Lasik corrects only the distant vision correction and you will need reading glasses. Custom Wavefront PRK (or photorefractive keratectomy) is where no flap of the cornea is created to do the actual correction. The correction is done on the front surface of the cornea. This is the choice procedure if you have a corneal thickness not suitable to do the LASIK procedure. If you are into contact sports like Boxing PRK is preferable to LASIK even if your cornea is thick enough to have LASIK.
