Dr. Desikan R. Kadambi

Dr. Desikan Rajguru Kadambi received his initial medical qualification in Mysore, India. He was a recipient of a merit scholarship for all 5 years of training at the Medical College. After his internship and prior to his departure to England, he worked as a demonstrator in the Anatomy Department. In England he worked in plastic, orthopedic, and general surgery, and the ER before starting his training in Ophthalmology at Birmingham & Midland County Eye Hospital in Birmingham. Later he worked at Wolverhampton Eye Infirmary and Stafford Hospital. He became a Fellow of Royal College Of Surgeons in Edinburgh. He came to Canada and obtained his Fellowship of Royal College Of Surgeons of Canada. He is also a Board Certified Specialist of the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Kadambi, a pioneer in lens implant surgery, was invited by Rotary Club of Poona, India to train surgeons in the art of Lens implantation. He, along with late Dr. Norman Stahl from Long Island, New York, trained several Indian surgeons to do lens implant surgery. He was the first surgeon to do posterior chamber lens implant, foldable lens implant and bifocal lens implant in Manitoba. He also started the first private surgical center for cataract surgery. He is published in American Lens Implant Society Journal. At an American Lens Implant Society meeting he did a poster presentation of accurately measuring the width of the anterior chamber in the eye and using flexible "haptics" for anterior chamber lens implants.

He was the first surgeon to do Excimer Laser Refractive surgery in Manitoba. In 1994 he started Eyetech Laser Clinic, the first Excimer Laser clinic in Manitoba. He was one of the few ophthalmologists to be chosen as a clinical investigator by Bausch & Lomb for the Chiron Technolas 116 Excimer Laser. Additionally, he was the first refractive surgeon to perform a LASIK procedure in Manitoba. Since June 1999 Dr. Kadambi has done over 25,000 procedures. He has personally trained several surgeons to do PRK and LASIK. Several optometrists have also visited Eyetech Lasik Clinic and have done "mini fellowships" so they can do the post-operative follow up of our LASIK patients.

Dr. Kadambi and his wife Kathleen live in Winnipeg. They have four daughters and a son. They enjoy traveling and visiting places of interest. All their daughters have had Laser Vision correction at Eyetech.
