Other “All LASER” And “Bladeless” Procedues
All LASER PRK
All laser procedures appeal to the patients and the surgeons alike. The fact of using a laser adds quality and value to the procedure. Our surgeon Dr.Kadambi used this all laser procedure for PRK as early as 1995 and still uses this procedure at Eyetech. In all laser PRK the epithelium is removed with Excimer Laser immediately followed by the laser vision correction. At Eyetech this is the preferred method for enhancing on previous LASIK patients who don’t have enough tissue to retreat by LASIK All laser PRK is also used to remove corneal scars and irregular astigmatism and in fact is the ideal choice for these.
Bladeless "EPI-LASIK"
“Epi-Lasik” is a modified form of PRK. The epithelium is separated by using a plastic “separator” in a machine called “Epi-Keratome”. The separated epithelium is folded away to expose the corneal surface for the Excimer Laser correction. The folded epithelium is unfolded to cover the cornea completely after the correction. Because no alcohol or a brush or blade is used to remove the epithelium there is little or no pain during the healing. There is also reduction in the period of using steroids postoperatively.
